JAGUAR MKII 3.4
JAGUAR MKII 3.4
The MK2 was a fast, spacious car with a pleasant design and therefore followed Sir William Lyons' best-known maxim: "grace, pace and space", where pace meant "speed", "running brilliance"). It was offered with three engines, which differed in displacement. All three were Jaguar XK powerplants. The smallest had a displacement of 2,483 cm³ (2.4 L) and delivered 120 HP of power (more powerful than that of the Mark I, thanks to the new cylinder head), the medium one was 3,442 cm³ (3.4 L, 210 HP ) and the larger engine of 3,781 cm³ (3.8 L, 220 HP)[3]. The latter was similar to the 3.8 L engine used on the E-Type, as it had common components such as the block, crankshaft, connecting rods and pistons. However, the two engines had different intake ducts and a different fuel system; in fact, in reference to the latter, the E-Type had three SU carburettors, while the Mark II only had two. As a result the Mark II's power was 45 hp lower. The Mark II's engine head had curved ducts as opposed to those installed on the E-Type's engine, which were instead straight. For markets outside the United States, the examples equipped with the 3.4 L engines were equipped with two SU carburetors while those with the 2.4 L engine had two Solex carburetors installed. For the US market, the 3.4 L and 3.8 L engine examples used three Solex carburetors.
