FIAT 1800
FIAT 1800
In the second half of the fifties, the Turin-based company started the study of a new large car that could take the place of the FIAT 1400 and 1900, on the market since 1950. Given the continuation of fashion, a bodywork was also chosen for the new flagship of American style. But the roundness of the previous model banned, the new bodywork sported taut lines, large fins and an abundance of chrome. From a technical point of view, however, the major innovations came from the engines (all 6 cylinders in line with lateral camshaft) and from the front suspension with independent wheels with torsion bars. For the rest, the car retained rear-wheel drive, the rigid-axle rear with longitudinal leaf springs, drum brakes on the 4 wheels and the 4-speed manual gearbox with lever on the steering wheel.
